National Day in Taiwan, which is also called Double Ten Day or Double Tenth Day, commemorates the start of the Wuchang Uprising of October 10 1911 which led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty and establishment of the Republic of China on January 1, 1912.

On January 1, 1912 the Republic of China was established, but after the end of World War II the Communists took control over the mainland China and the Government of the ROC had to relocate to Taiwan.
